Did you see this post by Anna and the Ring?
It’s titled ‘do you have to be beautiful?’ and is all about the insecurities that come with being a ‘normal’ wedding blogger/bride-to-be.
Both the post (and the brilliant comments in response to it) have had me thinking about what being a ‘beautiful’ bride means.
To me (and this is only my opinion) it’s the smile.
Whether it’s a big all-teeth-bared grin (I specialise in that myself when very happy, slightly drunk or both!) or a subtle, sweet smirk, I think it’s their smiley happiness that makes them shine.
This worries me a little (well, a lot) for my own wedding day.
I have funny little Kirsten Dunst-style teeth… sometimes they look fine, sometimes cute and other times, well, I swear they act up for photos!
But on our wedding day I don’t want to care a jot about them.
I want to do my big little silly grin – the one that nearly makes my eyes disappear – because that’s what I look like when I’m totally, stupendously happy.
A sweet smirk (and a very cute outfit).
I love her grin so much (and yes that dress is soooo gorgeous!)…
A cute little smirk – and wow what a dress… it almost makes me want a long one. (Who would have thought it?)
Doesn’t this lovely lady’s grin make you grin too?
A delicate smile – and some bold yellow. Love it.
This gorgeous gal’s beam makes me, well, beam too.
I love this bride’s happy/surprised smile with her eyes closed… but…
I love this one even more…
Whatever you do, do it with style, do it with a smile!
Happy (smiley) Weddingnesday everyone xx
This might just be my favourite blog post ever (big grin!)
i love this… before my brothers wedding my mum was pracising her mother of the groom smile.. it was very cute and it worked she got some good pictures
i have a massive grin and know that i’ll look like a tool in all my pictures! hey ho i don’t know how i’m going to feel but will definitely be running on raw emotion so we’re just going to have to wait and see what happens.
Oh, a lovely, lovely post.
The grin maketh the bride – depends how comfortable you are in front of the camera! The whole photography issue was only just endured by me – I’m a shy old thing really.
So so true zoe. Really loved this post.
This is a brilliant post and so true. Yes having a nice dress, your hair done how you like and sexy shoes is important but at the end of the day the most beautiful brides are the ones who are happy and nothing says that better than a smile. Cheesy but true nonetheless.
Very true. The only bride I have seen who didn’t look stunning was bridezillaesque, and looked grumpy of the whole day!
I am pretty ordinary looking, and have a slghtly toothy smile, but I think my wedding photos are the best ever of me.
Ps, you are very, very pretty and have a lovely smile, dinnae fret as my nana would say! x
So true. There is so much pressure on people to look a certain way when they get married. I’m as guilty of buying into this as anyone else as I’m currently some way to losing many many stones, though the wedding isn’t the only reason.(Oh dear, I feel a blog post coming on.)
But at the end of the day, me having a large arse has much less to do with the fact that bf proposed than the fact that he loves my smile.
Lots of smiles will matter on the day. I want to see my Mum and Dad smiling, his Mum and Dad, and all our friends and family. I want to see them drunk and dancing and happy too 🙂
awww….lovely!
i remember going to two weddings in a short period of time once and one of the brides cried the whole way the the ceremony (out of joy of course) and the other kept looking at the ring on her hand and couldnt stop giggling….i hope that i’ll be the latter!
Love the big grin metaphor. I’m going to try to be all about the big teeth and crinky eyes on my wedding day – the same way I was on my engagement day!
Actually cant help but smile when looking at these photographs 🙂 They are all so natural and genuine in emotion! Capturing some really special moments. Lovely ♥
awh such a lovely post Zoe! those pics are fab, and def made me smile! 🙂
x
Oh your post is so beautiful…I so believe in the power of a smile. Thanks for sharing. xoxo
some lovely pics you have chosen for this post, some that i clearly remember looking at and loving for the same reason.
a wedding is meant to be one of the happiest days of your life – smile on : ) xx
Yes. A hundred times yes. Even in the ones where I look like a complete tit the smiling photos are my favourite from our weddings.
Awesome advice, love the smiling brides.
