Back in September
I uttered those exact words
(without the asterisks).
We’d just discovered that the other half
had not one but two weeks less holiday
than we’d thought. So any idea of a big
long honeymoon/sunnymoon/whatever
was totally fubarred.
Then I started thinking… where can you go
for a week that will be blooming brilliant?
Simple. New York City.
So we went. We ate, walked, laughed.
We got a little sunburnt. We got blisters.
We had what we called ‘the best holiday ever’.
Here’s part 1 of my favourite snaps.
They make me want to go back
there right now. Oh f*** it.
View from the top of The Rock.
(Much shorter queues and a better
view than going up the Empire State.)
Loved the design of this coffee place.
Can’t imagine it would be good with a hangover though!
One thing I remembered from previous NYC visits
was how good the thrift/junk is… I’d been stalking
Brooklyn Flea on twitter before going. And then Thriftola
said it was a must-visit so it would have been rude not to!
Owl cookie jars, vintage suitcases, retro pots…
all sitting on a wooden door table!
The vintage crates which I was seriously considering
trying to put in my carry-on luggage to take home!
The oh so covetable blue Mason jars…
for only a couple of dollars each. Sob.
Vintage milk bottles… I had to buy something
so I bought one of these. Oh yes, I went all the
way to NYC and bought a milk bottle!
He he… didn’t see any puppies though.
So many letterpress blocks…
so little room in my suitcase.
Was quite taken with this old movie poster…
even though I plan on living until
I’m rather old thank you.
The best veggie hot dog ever… Honestly.
This one had spicy ketchup, jalapeno mustard
and crushed salt and pepper crisps on it!
We came back for seconds later in the day.
A little hipper than the usual ‘I ❤ NY’.
Or a little more hipster?
More graffiti… including a slightly scary fox.
I also so loved these big frogs!
One mighty strange thing about this trip
was that I drank coffee… every day.
Which is more coffee than I’ve ever
drunk in my entire life. Ever.
But how could I not when the logo
is so darn funny?!
I love NYC. Word.
Next time… a bit more of Manhattan.
Plus maybe some Diana shots if they come out!
Happy Weekend everyone xx

We’re hoping to go to new york for our honeymoon at christmas next year. Def going to try and go to one of those flea markets! I want everything you saw 🙂
I cant wait now! thank you for getting me all excited about it all again
We also brought a milk bottle back from New York! Such bargains, your photos are much prettier than ours.
Great minds think alike! Or buy alike! 😉 I have hardly any pics from when I was in NY before so was making up for it!
so great to see you were in nyc too! we had a ball too. so much fun. that coffee place is definitely making me feel a little bit sick. x
Bizarrely it’s less weird when you’re in there… I think it looks more trippy in pictures somehow. Yeah we definitely had a ball too 🙂
It is a requirement to drink coffee in New York. No other beverage will do!
Glad you enjoyed my absolute favourite city in the world!!
What’s not to love 🙂 Great photos! Kx
Looks so amazing! I would have left all of my clothes just to bring some more of those flea market finds home.
We are honeymooning in New York too – in just a few weeks! We will have the winter side of the coin. I can’t wait.
you just made me want to go to NYC, which i have never wanted to do since I went the last time. you just need to know where to go I think. Also: American coffee > UK coffee. By far. By so much. I miss American Coffee.
Ha, serendipity! I’m finally, finally researching my NY trip in earnest, after years of wishing after it — not that I’ve got rich all of a sudden, but I had a similar eff it moment a couple of weeks ago and realised I can’t always be putting it off till there’s the perfect time, because then it’ll never happen. Thanks for the The Rock tip!
Oh how fabulous, I’m so jealous! looks like you captured it so beautifully too x
Ooh! Were we honeymooning in NYC at the same time? We were there 15-24th…
So much lovely stuff pictured; so dying to go back too. And how weird about the coffee, I guess when in Rome…you gotta drink cawfee.
xxx
Almost! We arrived the evening of the 23rd! So we might have almost passed each other 🙂 That would have been rather funny!
This post has made me miss New York so much. So glad you had a wonderful time.
Ahh I adore NY. This is the perfect idea for a lovely minimoon!
xx
Ah god I love New York. We had a honeymoon gift list and now planning in what to do with the money. The best thing to do is plan 2 weeks of travel to places we’ve never been but so many times now we’ve also said f*** it let’s go back to where we really fell in love with each other!
Lovely pictures. NY is on the top of my ‘to visit’ list for sure. And I need one of those veggie hotdogs NOW!
Oooo don’t start about the flea markets in NYC! I did bring two letterpress blocks and I seriously considered to take home a huge chandelier…but my husband (we just got married) threatened to divorce me if I did. I f*cking love NYC too and this post makes me want to back…right now! (A friend of mine bought a 2nd suitcase to be able to bring back everything she bought…clever girl eh?)
another place I’d love to visit! one day i hope. plus I’d love one of those owl cookie jars
Love it all. We are trying very hard to make our dream of an east coast road trip happen in 2013 (which seems like a long way away, but isn’t). The coffee place with the books is on the to visit list!
When M got evacuated from Japan, meaning my much longed for trip to visit him was cancelled, NY was where we headed instead. It is definitely the go-to place when you just want to have a guaranteed great time, and always manages not to be just second best. Looking forward to seeing more!
I’m sulking… I’m green.. I’m huffing and I’m a puffing!! Jealousy & envy have invaded my headspace… but my heart says… “thank you for sharing” – I can certainly believe that would have been one of the “best vacations ever” 🙂
