Monday’s giveaway… Cut Copy Create… and The Spider and The Fly

13 Sep

So today’s giveaway… is actually a double giveaway.

Now you’ll all laugh but when I originally thought of doing a blog birthday giveaway, I wasn’t sure if anyone would want to do it at all. So I asked a few people, in the hope that at least one of them would say yes, and to my surprise everyone said they wanted in.

Which was amazing… and brilliant because it means I get to introduce you all (if I haven’t already) to my favourite shops and crafty people. They all make shopping in Scotland so much cooler 🙂

Anyway, that’s why we have two giveaways today – because more people said yes than I expected. On the plus side, you guys get the chance to win stupendously lovely stuff from Cut Copy Create and The Spider and The Fly.

First up, Cut Copy Create

Now you all know how much I love my Diana camera, so I was instantly smitten when I came across Cut Copy Create‘s fab prints, bags, badges and keyrings.

For today’s giveaway, she’s offering you the chance to win this lovely tote bag…

… and these snap happy camera badges!

To win, see the bottom of this post for the ‘how to’!

Up next is The Spider and The Fly

Now due to my self-imposed no buying stuff while we have two mortgages (ok, it’s less self-imposed as much as it’s a necessity!) I’m yet to make to the The Spider and The Fly.

It opened up in Edinburgh the same day as Hannah Zakari‘s shop. I know I’m going to love it though as it’s run by Emily who organises the brill Magpie Market. And because these images are the shop’s logo… I absolutely adore the spider and fly mascots!

Oh yes and it also stocks such lovely stuff as this…

(I need this owl canvas in my life! It sooo reminds me of our owl-fox-cat…)

For the giveaway, Emily has very kindly offered one of these gorgeous Nikki McWilliams Tea Cake cushions… which is so on my wish-list right now. I think it would look exceedingly good in one of our Parker Knolls!

To be in with a chance to win the bag and badges or the cushion, here’s what you have to do… simply tell us why you need these items in your life and Ashley from Cut Copy Create and Emily from The Spider and The Fly will pick their favourites!

I’ll reveal the winner next Monday – and the best two reasons will win the prizes!

If you’re one of my Facebook fans, you can also leave your comment there. Follow me on twitter? You get an extra vote for tweeting about the giveaway!

Happy Monday everyone!

P.S. Tomorrow is the last giveaway… phew! … and it’s Emily Hogarth.

UPDATE: AND THE WINNERS ARE…

So this time round, Mr Random Generator has been retired and it was over to Ashley from Cut Copy Create and Emily from The Spider and The Fly to choose their favourite ‘why I need these things’!

Ashley from Cut Copy Create choose:

That’s Lucy A (aka @midcenturylass) who said:

“Amazing giveaway…how to choose?! Such a fab idea for a cushion. I have to go with the camera goodies. I am MENTAL for lomo cameras and accessories and goodies and trying out different film types and trying out wierd ways to take interesting photos. My OH buys me lomo stuff for my – Diana, my Holga, my Fisheye and my (not strictly lomo but very lomo-fiy) Robot – cameras…for every birthday, so I have all sorts of hot shoe accessories, wierd flashes, lenses, gismos, books and other jiggery-pokery. However, I have nothing to carry any of this stuff around in and my normal bags are getting a bit out of shape, and using my supermarket jute bags just feels w-r-o-n-g. So the bag would fix that problem sharpish and be thematic to boot. As for the badges, I’ve just turned 31 and it freaks me out, as I don’t fancy being as grown up as that number of years sounds, so a bunch of badges would take me back to the ’90s and my badge-wearing yoof. Yay.”

And Emily from The Spider and The Fly choose (and I think a few of you might have guessed this one!)…

Tunnocks said (and this is some story so you might need a cuppa and teacake for this one!)…

“Ever since I saw the picture of the Tunnock’s Teacake cushion I have felt an endless void burrowing its way into my life… When I was at school I was never wooed by the novelty froggyness of Freddo’s, the sheer scale of the wagon wheel or the crispy, sugary shell of a party ring… I was loyal to my teacake like little else and I ate (atleast) one every.single.day for my entire school life. It became something of a game between my friends to see what it would take to make me swap my Tunnock’s (a massively edited list would include: a substantial slice of lovingly dinner-lady made lemon meringue pie, a jumbo bottle of yazoo milkshake, a champagne crunchie (remember them!?), endless jaffa cakes and, of course, substantial quantities of dairy milk. Was I swayed?… was I hell! Nothing came close to the shiny red and silver wrapper, carefully peeled off and flattened into a perfect square, and the joyous, gooey MOUND OF WONDER within.

By the time I left school, my best friends only referred to me as ‘Tunnocks’ and my leavers t-shirt was scrawled with arty interpretations of the red and white pattern. Shortly after this I moved South. A place where corner shops rarely stock individual teacakes and at an age where people didn’t take such pleasure in their lunchboxes and to a group of new friends who would never know to call me Tunnocks.

I’m sure you’ll agree this is sad. Every year when I receive a birthday card from my best friend, addressed to ‘Tunnocks’ I get a warm glow and often celebrate said glow by tucking into a teacake (of which I keep a supply, oddly, in my wardrobe).

So, for all of the above reasons, I would dearly love the Tunnock’s Teacake cushion in my life. I would display it proudly in the middle of my shamefully bare armchair (i want it so badly I even did a rhyme for you!) and I would recreate the daily teacake moment of my childhood with a giant, squishy cushion version nestled next to me. That would be pretty awesome. I would also be tempted to place it in the middle of the ledge above my little fireplace from time to time so it could feel extra special and get lots of lovely comments from my flatmates who all laugh at me for keeping my MOUNDS OF WONDER in the wardrobe.

Tunnock’s teacake cushion… I salute you x”

Well done Lucy A and Tunnocks!

P.S. An honourable mention must also go to Hannah Evans as I absolutely adored her story!

“My nan, Florence Gertrude Sherwood, has just turned 101 and she always says Tunnocks on a Sunday and a glass of milk a day is what has enabled her to do this! ….personally I think it was because she was a nurse…but her reason is much cuter.

I would LOVE to be able to give her one of these cushions for her 101st Christmas (only 99 days away whoop!) then when she’s gone keep it with me always as a beautiful reminder of the best person in my life.”

Ooh I’m first to comment! How exciting! Not as exciting as those fantabulous teacake cushions though … I need one of them in my life as neither my husband nor my bank balance will let me buy super fun cushions, so my couch looks exceptionally dull with some plain cream ones. Pretty please? X

  2. ayden 13/09/2010 at 8:37 AM #

Wow! Haha wow wow wow. My new flat is on the edinburgh line (well, not quite literally) and knowing that these fabby wee shops are only 40 mins away makes me want to come visit right NOW! Not even get out of my jammies. I bet I’d look cool along with all the commuters 🙂

Aaanyways, if I was to come to the ‘burgh right now In my bedtime attire and slippers then I would bring the girls some amazing home made carrot cake from the Peckhams next to my house. Then I would tell them in a dramatic Mighty Boosh-esque monologue fashion (single spotlight and all, I’m going way out here) that I need these beautiful items in my life because…

    1. I think supporting local independant designers is super important.
    2. I’m living away from home for the very first time and these wee beauties would certainly help to make my house a home. and
    3. Tunnocks and lomography are possibly my two most favourite things in the whole world! 😀 (of course my cat, and then my boyfriend, coming 3rd and 4th)

I’m coming for yous in my pj’s right now! 🙂 xx

  3. Sasha 13/09/2010 at 8:39 AM #

I would love one of the tea cake cushions! They are so beautiful. Also, my flatmate is moving away and she owns all the cushions, so my couch will be completely cushionless!

  4. Ilana 13/09/2010 at 8:55 AM #

This could possibly be your best giveaway so far!!!

For the Cut Copy Create giveaway, my reason for wanting this giveaway is because my love for Diana has grown along with every film I get developed. Even though the 120mm film costs a fortune to buy/develop/print…it is worth every penny 🙂 Because just like a child in a lolly shop, the excitement of opening your newly developed set of photos is intoxicating. And so, this Diana tote bag would bring me so much joy and happiness, as I am absolutely, totally, indescribably in love and devoted to Diana 🙂

As for The Spider and The Fly giveaway, I have just finished totally Spring cleaning my home. And since I live in quite a small, snug flat I would love the chance to decorate it with some beautiful creations like those cushions 🙂

    Fingers crossed!!!

    Well

    – I need the camera bag to carry my new (old) camera in, along with all of it’s accoutrements and a book(and maybe some chocolate)! The badges would look supercool on my new fabric hairband too!

    – and I need the Tunnock’s Teacake cushion because (a) it’s red and white! (b) it’s a Tunnock’s Teacake! and (c) i really like the idea of being made cosy by a Tunnock’s Teacake, while eating a Tunnock’s Teacake with a cup of tea.

  6. Catherine 13/09/2010 at 9:21 AM #

I am loving your birthday giveaways! I’m moving in with my boyfriend tomorrow for the first time (yikes!!) and will definitely be needing some things to spruce up our little flat, but with being short on funds (must.stop.buying.shoes) and sacrificing our usual lifestyle so that we can cosy up together, I’d love that squashy looking teacake cushion to make sofa time a bit more tasty! xo

Well after reading ‘Tunnocks’ reasons for the Cushion I doubt being a skint student stands up, but alas, a girl can try!

My reason(s) for wanting the Tunnocks Tea Cake Cushion:

    1) As a skint student I have to live with the utterly boring decor of student accomodation and the cushion would brighten up my boring ‘same as every other flat’ couch.

    2) I am engaged and my future mother-in-law could stop nagging me to get a couch ‘throw’ as the cushion would be an amazing distraction/addition to the aforementioned crappy couch.

    3) It was made by a work colleague (higher up in the chain than myself) and I could casually drop it into conversation that I happened to own one of these fantastic cushions 😉

4)It’s like one of the items you see in Sex and The City and think – I wish I had cool stuff like that – but even better… It was made in Scotland and Highlights the awesome stuff we have in this country!

and finally… I just really want one!!

    xx

  9. Elizabeth 13/09/2010 at 11:41 AM #

I need the Diana goodies to remind me not to fear my Diana camera and embrace its sensitivities.

And I need those cushions to make my boyfriends plain white minimalist room come to life with a feminine touch.

  10. Polly 13/09/2010 at 2:29 PM #

    WOW such good giveaways!

I would love that camera bag to carry my art sketchbooks in when I start university in a couple of weeks. They never fit in my handbag so I need a pretty but practical bag to carry them in!
Plus I have wanted a Diana camera for sooo long but being a student means that I can’t afford one 😦 so that bag would be like a replacement and would make me super happy every time I picked it up!

I’m also moving into student halls so that beautiful cushion would be perfect for making my new room homely and comfortable. Plus I love tea cakes 🙂 xx

  11. gingerbreadhouse 13/09/2010 at 2:38 PM #

I love the Diana bag. I’m ashamed to admit I know nothing about the camera so will be having a bit of a google!

I also love the Tunnocks cushion. I was in the Tunnocks’ Caramel Wafer Appreciation Society for 5 years when at Uni so this would be a great reminder of those happy times.

    Great giveaway 🙂

  12. michelle price 13/09/2010 at 2:47 PM #

Everyone’s comments on here are brill, i think everyone deserves to win lol!!

Here’s my reason why i need both of these items. In march my boyfriend got offered a job in Berlin and asked if i wanted to come along. Seeing as i am from Germany the obvious answer was YES! I moved to the UK when i was 8 so it’s fair to say it’s been a while.

Anyway i am a 2nd year art student and in massive amounts of debt and i have an amazing job in a pub that makes me immensely happy however, the pay is paltry!

So i packed up my watercolours and teddies and saved all my pennies (still wasn’t enough, luckily my boyfriend is a big saver!) and i deferred my final year of uni so i could follow my boyfriend on the only adventurous thing i’ve ever done in my life.

I’ve been here for 3 weeks now and with all the spare time i have i am thinking of everything i need to do when i get home. Pay for my car insurance, pay my road tax, pay off my overdraft, buy christmas presents for everyone, then most importantly….it’s my baby sister’s 21st birthday 2 weeks after my plane lands.
I have literally 100euros to my name and i still have 9 weeks to go here in Berlin!

Now i don’t like to beg, but i beg you, help me make my sister’s 21st special!!

    Thanks x

I need these fab goodies because I’m a poor, lowly graduate student, so most everything I own is from the thrift store or the curb. I love to bring old things back to life with a shiny new coat of paint, but seriously now – that only goes sooo far, right?! Plus, I’m obsessed with tea, my Holga and my little rainbow Polaroids!

  15. Red boots 13/09/2010 at 5:02 PM #

I think I should win the cushion because I’ve become hooked on the pimp my snack website, and owning the cushion might lead me closer to my dream of pimping a tunnocks teacake (my favourite chocolatey treat)! I can just imagine a massive mallow – nom nom nom!

  16. Mandy Crandell 13/09/2010 at 5:05 PM #

    These artists are wonderful!

I need the tote bag in my life, because I carry at least two to three cameras with me at all times. I need to be able to grab one as quickly as possible without fumbling with pockets and such.

  17. Kerry 13/09/2010 at 6:27 PM #

Ohhhh I neeeed the teacake cushion so much! My lovely man is supergreat in many ways but does not understand cushions, so I don’t get much chance to decorate the sofa, but if an amazing cushion arrived in the post as a gift it would have to be put pride of place! K xxx

  18. kiddomerriweather 13/09/2010 at 6:28 PM #

I definitely need the bag in my life because a girl can never have too many bags! I’m a huge fan of Cut Copy and Create, but can’t afford to buy anything from there as I’ve been out of work going on 16 months. I would love to use this bag to tote my sewing around with me!

The tea cake cushions have stole my heart. I have memories of walking in my nanna’s granny flat and being welcomed with a grand buffet of biscuits and tunnocks teacakes, they were her favourite and mine. Without fail she always had these in her cupboard, and bring back many lovely memories. Sadly (don’t want to pull those heart strings!) she passed away this Summer.one of those gorgeous cushions would remind me when walking out the door to pick up a packet just like my nan did. X

  21. Danae 13/09/2010 at 7:10 PM #

That tea cake cushion was born for our house — not only are we rocking the granny chic vibe in our Edinburgh flat (read: fancy feet on tables, hand-me-down furniture and a china cabinet full of useless knick knacks), but my husband is world-renowned for his indefatigable sweet tooth. Sadly, he came in third during our Friday night flying saucer eat-off, but I am happy to report that he is still the reigning champion for jelly donut consumption in less than a minute. He ate six.

So yeah, a giant tea cake cushion? I’m surprised I don’t have one already.

  22. Anne Marie Carroll 13/09/2010 at 7:39 PM #

No point, Tunnocks gets the cushions and i’ll just have to buy some.

  23. HANNAH EVANS 13/09/2010 at 8:03 PM #

I need these things in my life as I am desperately trying to save up to quit my horrible day job so I can be a full time crafter, which means no buying pretty things… and I need pretty things in my life to inspire me to make pretty things so I can save up to quit my job!

It kinda gets circular here but basically I NEED these lovely gorgeous things to cheer me up while I save up for a better future

  25. Ashley Boccuti 13/09/2010 at 8:26 PM #

OHMYGOSH! I need the Diana Camera bag. I have a Diana camera, and I love the dreamy photos I’ve been able to make with it.
I think I should win it, purely for the fact that if I do win, all of the unicorns of the world will sing a song of joy for all to hear.
That should be reason enough! 🙂

  26. Tawny 13/09/2010 at 9:20 PM #

Ah, I must make it through to Edinburgh soon. Such lovely things! My boyfriend used to work in the Tunnocks factory and one of those cushions would make me giggle and think of him every time I saw it – and give me something to squeeze when he’s not around!

  27. ellie 13/09/2010 at 9:38 PM #

For the Diana bag my reasons are as follows 🙂

I could never afford a Diana camera and one day whilst at a jumble sale a little old lady sold me an original Diana for 20p. I was so, so happy and treasured it for a long time and took lots of lovely photos but a couple of weeks ago it just stopped working. I think it finally gave up after so many years. I would love the Diana bag as a memorial to my beloved Diana, long live Diana!

And for the Tunnocks tea cake cushion, well I am on a very strict diet at the moment so this would be my only chance at having something sweet in my life!

  28. Renee 14/09/2010 at 4:54 AM #

I would like to win the teacake cushions. I have a 2 year old daughter that takes the sofa cushion and places them on the floor when watching TV. This would be her own little cushion to designate her spot on the floor.

    http://www.thecrochetloft.etsy.com

  29. THE NIGHT OWL 14/09/2010 at 8:40 AM #

Well I’d like both of these things myself but if I won them I’d give them both to my best friend. Stacey has just moved her growing family back into their own home following a house fire nine months ago.

She has no shoppers anymore. Her’s used to hang behind the kitchen door and this beautiful camera would even match the new paint work too. And when her new peacock blue sofa arrives she wont have any of the beautiful handmade cushions which made her old settee so homely. This lovely teacake cushion would look just tickety-boo and remind her to sit down and have a teacake!

  30. Dee 14/09/2010 at 8:46 AM #

So, I NEED the bag and badges because if I can’t have my namesake camera (yet, I am saving my spare pennies for one) then I think I should totally have a bag with a picture of one on it. (I can also then use it to carry round my lovely camera once I’ve saved enough)

And the cushion. Wow, the cushion. I saw that cushion a few weeks ago and honestly have not shut up about it since. Anyway, I need it to a) save the sanity of my lovely friends who have surely had enough of me banging on about it. And b) because i’m trying to source quirky cushions for older guests to sit on at our wedding reception, and it really tickles me to think of future Gran-in-law parking her derriere on a giant Tunnocks Teacake.

  31. Emily 14/09/2010 at 9:49 AM #

Haha, I don’t need these but my friend does! She adores Tunnocks teacakes and it’s her birthday soon, I’d love to win a Tunnocks cushion for her, and it would be so much better for her diet than buying her the real thing 😉

  32. Becca eastland 14/09/2010 at 10:44 AM #

I love both these things, both already faved on folksy. I have already ordered from cut copy create before ( keyring currently on my nice new leather bag ). I shall now be ordering one or two of those tunnocks tea cakes cusions, due to the fact that the lady who is called “tunnocks” is well deserving of getting one.
I myself am a massive camera fan, it’s not just about taking photos, the actual cameras themselves are amazing, I’m often finding polaroids in junk shops cheaply – I don’t use them too often but they are constanly on display alongside my two limo cameras.

Basicly the cut copy create tote would be carried around with me everywhere – journeys to visit the parents in Wales, carried up hills and down with cameras inside, or even my regular trips to london galleries.
It’s just a bloody usefull bag to have especially if it has cameras inside- also will make me look cool… And the badges would be attached to my new coat ( when I find one). Well good luck to everyone!

If anyone fancys another chance to win something I’m doing a little giftaway too! It’s on my blog http://eastland-at.blogspot.com/

Thanks for this great give-away! Xx

  33. Ana Sofia 14/09/2010 at 1:31 PM #

    OMG hello?

    AHHHHH, WHAT A WONDERFUL GIVEAWAY!

I SO WANT the diana goodies, they’re so cute it hurts! Now I am going to give you two good reasons why I should win this giveaway:

    1) I live so far away and I can never ever reach these wonderful things because I don’t have paypal! (in this country we’re only allowed to spend $400 per year abroad, only with a credit card! -which i don’t have-)O please have mercy on me!!!111.

    And…

    2) September 20th (next monday) IT’S ACTUALLY MY BIRTHDAY! I swear I’m not lying (I can actually scan my passport and paste it here!) and i think it is sort of redundant letting you know that these goodies would be a super great birthday present for me!!!

Last but no least, I’m a Diana freak, I got one on my last birthday and I’ve been shooting every moving thing ever since. I love it with my heart.

(I wish you could see my puppy eyes right now *_*)

    *Crossing fingers in 3…2…1*

  34. Gaynor 14/09/2010 at 1:36 PM #

I think Hannah should have the cushion for her nan!

But it would look fab alongside the other 5 red & white cushions on my sofa (the sofa obviously does need 6 cushions, despite what my hubby says!) and the bag would be lovely to carry my craft stuff around, or maybe my lunch to work!

  35. loobyroux 14/09/2010 at 3:36 PM #

oh my god. i bloody love tunnock’s. Ive been looking everywhere for teacake type craft items. these look amazing. i’d just really love to own something that represents my childhood treat, my belated nana used to coax me round with a lovely cup of tea and a teacake on offer i was always round there 🙂

  36. Iona 14/09/2010 at 9:23 PM #

I need these delightful bits in my life because:
I can get up at 6am for work and turn my sleepy frown upside down when I put my work things in that lovely tote bag, then when I’m on the bus having to listen to tango-ed girls talk about make-up & boys I can look down at those beautiful badges pinned onto my jacket & know I look sooo much better, then after a hard day at work changing nappies & dealing with screaming kids I can come home, put the kettle on & snuggle up to a teacake cushion. 🙂 x

  37. Jane Sommerville 14/09/2010 at 10:06 PM #

Well, the wonderful beautiful wonderful Tunnocks’ cushion has been on my Santa list since the Spider and the Fly opened in July. Having already purchased some of the shop’s Tights For Sore Eyes Oreo/Bourbon tights, I would now very much heart the chance get a bit of calorie-free biscuity action going on in the wee junk shop that is my flat. Plus, my giant teacup is getting lonely… (imagine a cup of punchbowl proportions, adorned with the Mad Hatter’s tea party) and is in dire need of an oversized marshmallowy treat for company…

  38. Robin 14/09/2010 at 10:06 PM #

    I want the Tunnocks teacakes for two reasons;

    1) I’m possibly the biggest Tunnocks fan south of the scottish border – I even made a 1.2kg Tunnocks Wafer once:
    Giant Tunnocks

    2) I was so amazed at the tunnocks cushions when I saw them in the Spider and the Fly on opening day that I forgot to buy them the next day! ACK, I only remembered when I’d got back to Sheffield!

    Woow, niice giveaway!

Happy bloggy birthday, I just celebrated my 23rd birthday on September 13 too. I kind of have an obsession with the number 13, usually or almost always, it makes me late, it makes me forget, it’s always on the first day of school and it makes me have a wierd thing for all things 13. But even with all my bad luck, I have come to love this special number deeply. So I hope this number 13 has been very good to you and your lovely blog. Plus maybe today might be my lucky day and I get to win this gorgeous diana tote, of which I would carry around all my 13 things :: a heart :: a notebook :: a pen :: a wallet :: a photo :: a mirror :: a diary :: a camera :: a lipstick :: a vaseline :: a mint :: a smile and a penny for all-times luck

And as for the Tunnock’s cushion, well I have never seen nor tasted a Tunnock biscuit, so owning a Tunnock cushion would be my very first and one and only.

I have admired the Tunnocks cushions for ages because they are such a witty Scottish symbol. I think it’s funny the way they subvert the shortbread appeal of scotland and are both nostalgic and strikingly modern in their design.
Plus, my house has loads of red in it and one of these cushions would look awfy bonnie on my sofa when it’s time for a cup of tea and something sweet.

    Happy Birthday, by the way!

The tote bag would be perfect for lugging my cameras in when taking shots around Edinburgh, and then the cushion would be perfect for have a wee sit down later

I need that fab tote because I carry a TON of stuff with me everywhere and my sketchbooks and reading material just don’t fit in my purse! Plus, everyone knows I take photos ALL the time, so if I had that bag everyone would know it was mine!
