Because it’s Monday… halfway to a hipster

21 Nov

When we were in Brooklyn, we played Spot the Hipster.

From this, we learned that to pass as hipsters
the other half would need to grow a beard,
and I would need to get a fringe.

There seemed to be other attributes
but these are the ones that stuck out.
Mainly as he’s never going to grow a beard
and I don’t suit fringes.

Once home, I happened upon this print
by Brit illustrator Jenni Sparks
“Things Hipsters Like”.

Turns out I’m halfway to being a hipster.
I love my Diana, my old gameboy, coloured bikes,
tea in china cups, brogues (but on the other half, not me)
typewriters, old record players (and music) and kitsch tees.

Oh yes, and I drink soya milk.
(Normal milk and I are not friends.)

The rest isn’t me. So I’m about 50% hipster.
50% unhipster. (Or whatever a non hipster is!)

How about you?
What percentage do you work out to be?

*****

P.S. I just did the maths.
I’m actually about 64.28% hipster.
Not sure if that’s better or worse!

Because it’s Monday…

15 Aug

Some days… well, some days are just a bit Monday-shaped aren’t they?

But these beautiful masks by Keely of (Kiss Me) Go made me smile.

I like the bear one especially with his little rosy cheeks.

“It’s Monday. Bear with me.”

But of course everyone knows I have a soft spot
for foxes… maybe it could be for wearing on Tuesdays?

Because it’s (a rainy) Monday…

8 Nov

So it’s another rainy Monday…

The perfect weather to mark the end of my really rather rainy staycation.

We went up North (and got rained on).

We went to museums (and got rained on).

We went to exhibits (and got rained on).

We choose one day to stay at home and do diy… the one day it didn’t rain.

The day we choose to go spend my birthday money it rained so much that my jeans absorbed ALL the water on the pavements and were wet past my knees!

But what do you expect with a holiday in Scotland in November?

But even with our continual soakings, we had an absolutely great time.

In fact, I would trade you sitting at my work desk for stomping about with the OH in the pouring rain right now.

(As long as I get to have a hot cup of tea and a fruit scone with raspberry jam afterwards!)

Friday I’m in love… with things I can’t show you!

2 Jul

Some of you know this already but a while back the OH asked me to stop blogging about our wedding. (If you didn’t know, you might have noticed that there’s a been a lack of ‘reference’ posts recently.) He asked me to do this for a sensible and very good reason. (Not because he was being mean!)

Because a lot of our friends – and even some family, hello little sis! – read this blog. I tend to forget that they do as they very rarely comment on it. (Actually I tend to forget that anyone else other than the people who comment read this blog – so when I look at the stats it freaks me out as I think there’s only about 20 of you out there when I’m writing these!)

Anyway, he quite rightly wants to keep our plans secret from our friends and family so it’s a surprise on the day. I know he’s right. (He usually is but don’t tell him I told you that!) But it does leave me in a bit of a dilemma for my posts.

You see almost everything I have bookmarked at the moment is a wedding reference. Almost all our current crafty and sourcing projects are to do with the wedding. And it feels weird not being able to share them here. But I know it’ll be worth it – and in a year’s time if I’m still blogging I’ll be able to share what we’ve been up to.

So in place of all the things I can’t show you, here’s something lovely things I’ve been saving recently that I can:

Cute circusy vintage skirt from brownbagvintage – this looks like it would cheer up a grey Scottish day…

Vintage container from kitschcafe – this just makes me smile…

A vintage kid’s kitchen from RetroClassics – yeah I might have re-developed a bit of a thing for toy kitchens!

An apple ukulele from celentanowoodworks’ shop – it’s got such a sad little expression!

Adorable cushion from robinandmould (found via The Seventy Tree)…

Pretty pretty bicycle made for two card from letterpress

A very very pretty bag from quejimenez

And a sports-appropriate poster that made me laugh from dearcolleen.

Yup it’s an entirely random list of things!!

Happy Friday everyone xx

Bathroom bother…

21 Jul

il_430xN.74639980

Arrrgh!

Sometimes no other word will do. Just discovered that the tiler that had been recommended to us is a little bit dear (to say the least!) so we’re currently on the case trying to track down another (who doesn’t think we’re made of money) for the start of next week.

Anyone done any tiling? I’ve done grouting before but never tiling… But I’m beginning to think it has to be easier than shelling out all that money? Right?

The only thing that’s calming me down is that it’s a good excuse to show you this wall art from Stitchface. Very cute and it’s reminding me to breathe a bit… (Renovation is bad for your health I swear!)

I'm forever blowing bubbles…

13 Jul

il_fullxfull.77596561

I’m not really but it does feel like I’ve been posting a lot of bubble-related items recently (ok, there’s only been the glass bubble necklace but it does feel like a lot I swear!) Anyway, my ongoing quest to find a ‘conversation piece’ of a kitchen light has grown into a quest to find one for the bedroom too. I really like this one from Jean Pelle – but the cost of shipping from the US, not to mention its chances of surviving the journey definitely rule it out. Anyone seen anything similar? (She asked hopefully…)

Ikea… it's a love hate thing

2 Jul

ikea

So the time has come to go to Ikea again… I’m sure I used to love going (probably back when I got my very first flat) but nowadays it just seems like a chore. I don’t want to think about how many hours I’ve spent in that place (5 Ikea minutes is equal to an hour in real time). This all perhaps influenced by the fact that other half greatly dislikes the trip to Ikea – and has to be bribed with ice-cream and veggie hot dogs to go.

That said… I’m a big fan of their PS range, love their range of extremely affordable fabrics and you can’t knock their bright coloured washing up brushes! And there’s nothing better than a revamped bit of Ikea… So despite my unwillingness to go, I’m appreciating Skinny laMinx’s I Wish we had IKEA cushion and tea towel.

Based in Cape Town, she designed her ‘wish list’ after someone sent her an Ikea catalogue (she’d mentioned on her blog how deprived she felt for not having IKEA stores in South Africa.)

Which reminds me that it is better to have Ikea than to not! Though I may need to be reminded of this sentiment when we’re still in Ikea debating bathroom taps at 8.30pm!

Friday I'm in love… with love

So I’m back from Norway, where I had a stupendously good time (will show you some pics soon), my red Bobbin Glorie has arrived (ooh she’s so pretty!), I’m gearing up for the Moonwalk on Saturday (followed by seeing Take That on the Sunday!) and all in all I’m feeling really happy… and loved up. Which is strange when you’ve been in a relationship as long as me and the other half have but good strange… So I thought I’d pass on the love (and an award) since it’s a Friday and you’re all so lovely 🙂

1. Simplify our love tile from Rob Ryan
I love this gorgeous tile from very talented Rob Ryan… and they’re finally back in stock at his Etsy shop. Yay!

2. Heart Yo-Yos from Somethings Hiding in Here
Love is a little like a yo-yo – sometimes in love you feel up and sometimes you feel down… And don’t you just love the cross-stitchness (yes a trip to Norway hasn’t cured me of that!)

il_430xN.75957375

3. Love Card from Curious Doodles
Love how simple this is… it’s so a ‘I could have made this’ kind of thing. Except I didn’t.

Only just realised how many cross-stitch/sampler things are in this post. Anyway, no idea who Helen and Lito are but I think this is so sweet.

7. A rather lovely award
Before I went away, Kerry from The Seventy Tree gave me this rather nice award. She has a totally fab blog – and is a fellow lover of yellow – so if you haven’t been there before, get over there as it rocks.

And now for the passing on of the award. Here’s some blogs I think are rather lovely too…

Eden Rose
Her Little Place
Lobster and Swan
Fieldguided
Little Doodles
Slices of Beauty

Check them out if you haven’t already and have a fab weekend xx

Off to Norway…

10 Jun

il_430xN.66531183-1

So I’m off to Norway tomorrow to see my friends Ellen and Alfonso… Not by train I hasten to add but I thought I would share this Monsieur Cabaret Canvas Bag from Olso-based Darling Clementine. Isn’t it a cool bag? I love the line “Monsieur Cabaret Says Astonish Me!”

Anyway, while I’m away I’ve scheduled a few posts so there’ll still be some ramblings from me (just in case you were worried!) And even better than that, some friends have written a few guest posts too so feel free to give them a lovely blogland welcome 🙂

P.S. Also wanted to say a big thanks to The Seventy Tree for my ‘Creative Blogger’ award – I will pass it on when I get back from the cabin! (Yup I’m going with friends to a cabin in Norway… so sounds like the start of a horror movie!)

P.P.S. My bike arrives on Friday! (Even though I’m not here!) Thanks for all your voting… I went with (drum roll) red in the end!

ABC is for Bunny

1 Jun

Just a quick hello from me today. As the sun is still shining, I’m trying to get through my work super-super-fast so I can get out of here at 5.30 on the dot to get me some more Vitamin D! But there’s always time for one small conversation piece, so here’s today’s… the Bunny Alphabet from Lucy Player. Isn’t it adorable?

P.S. Sorry for my lack of replies to your comments. Will get round to replying when the sun goes down tonight 😉

Cup of light anyone?

13 May

il_430xN.34021473

I’ve been looking for a unique light pendant to put over our table in our kitchen… and I came across this from Domestic Construction. Part of me really likes how pretty this is – a cluster of assorted vintage teacups hanging together – but part of me also feels sort of sorry for the teacups… never again to be used to serve tea in.

Gosh I’m a sap sometimes!

A feather in her hair

30 Apr

Oooh, pretty… I’m loving these hairbands from NevaPlume. Can’t decide whether I’m loving the butterflies more or the yellow with the feather (you know how I feel about yellow). Oh to be 5 again and be able to wear this kind of thing every day… or be a show girl I suppose!!

il_430xn65555784il_430xn67353943il_430xn67714404

(P.S. How gorgeous is this girl’s hair? So makes me want to be a red head!)
